SportsChunk is a live football and cricket news platform, "news served in clean, bite-size chunks." It's a complete product: a custom content system with multiple authors, categories, search, user accounts, engagement features, and a newsletter, all designed and built from the ground up. I designed and developed the entire platform end to end, from the reading experience to the publishing and admin systems behind it.
Scope of Work
This wasn't a website, it was a product.
SportsChunk needed everything a real news outlet has: a way to publish and manage articles, organize them by sport and type, support multiple writers, let readers find and engage with stories, and grow an audience. That meant building a full content platform, not designing a set of pages.
A custom content management system.
Articles, categories (Football, Cricket, Transfer News, Videos), author profiles, publishing, and a "Top News" ranking system, all built into a custom CMS so the editorial team can publish and manage content without touching code.
Reader-facing features that make it feel alive.
Article view counts, author bylines, timestamps, a live "Latest" and "Top News" feed, full-text search, and category browsing, so readers can move through the platform the way they would on any major sports outlet.
User accounts and engagement.
A login and authentication system underpins reader accounts and engagement, laying the groundwork for comments, saved articles, and personalization, the kind of infrastructure that turns a news site into a platform people return to.
Built for growth, and revenue.
An integrated newsletter capture, a built-in ad-slot system for sponsors, and a clean, fast, image-optimized front end (served through a CDN) mean the platform is ready to scale its audience and monetize from day one, not bolted on later.
